[00:00:02] Speaker A: Locks in the Box Volume 1 Episode. [00:00:06] Speaker B: 9. [00:00:09] Speaker B: I Booked Safari program specifically in the region where I heard last from Tony and Yousef was my guide. [00:00:20] Speaker B: As soon as I landed at Lagos International Airport, Yusef was there. We took a small charter to first Sapo national park, then the second day to the city of San Pedro in the Ivory Coast. [00:00:33] Speaker C: Welcome, ma'. Am. So glad you made it. You'll be amazed what we have here. Anything you heard or seen on the Internet, TV or movie are nothing compared to the real wild life. I guarantee it. All kinds of animals. Monkeys, pygmies, hippopotamus, leopards, you name it, we have them all. [00:00:57] Speaker B: Thank you so much, such a warm welcome. But I'm only here for one and only one reason. [00:01:06] Speaker C: Ah, I see. Well, we do have elephants too, you know. Thai national park will be our first stop. And yes, they are protected spirit. But guess what? As soon as they roamed around outside the protected areas, it's all fair game. So gear it up and let's have a great safari, ma'. [00:01:30] Speaker B: Am. [00:01:32] Speaker B: He was so enthusiastic. Not sure if he did that with all his clients, but I was taken by that in all honesty. And so after napping in the little play, we got there at night, drove an old jeep, then reached the outskirts of the park. Youssef was absolutely right. Everything I heard about Africa was nothing compared to what I was witnessing. Just the sound of the flora and fauna alone. Never heard anything like that before. When we got there, Yusef was all about being a gentleman. [00:02:12] Speaker B: Is that a. Yeah, it just. [00:02:16] Speaker C: It just lets people know that we are stepping into his territory. As song we are in the wild now. Have no fear. Please walk behind me and make sure to tap me on the shoulder if you see something or if you feel uncomfortable. No screaming, please just whisper and. Or tapped me on the shoulder. [00:02:38] Speaker B: Yes. I nodded affirmatively and followed his every step as Yusuf led Wei with his flashlight. After walking for like half an hour or so, we found a spot. Seemed to be a place where some major things happened. The ground looks flat, wet, muddy with branches and leaves everywhere. The box I know now I didn't know then. I also saw a silver crucifix necklace covered by mud in the ground. My flashlight pointed at it and I instantly went to it, picked it up, I recognized it and quickly put it in my pocket without being seen. [00:03:30] Speaker C: Are you calling Mrs. Are you okay? [00:03:34] Speaker B: Yes, I'm okay. Just. It's too damn hot. I'm so drenched in this clothes Sh. [00:03:44] Speaker B: Youssef thought that I was lacking. Then we stopped before Sick bush area covering the box. Huge hole as you set as a trap for elephants. [00:04:02] Speaker B: My dad's no angel, as I said. But he deserves some peace. So my hunt for you started. [00:04:13] Speaker B: What can you can you tell me about the man in charge? I asked Yusuf. [00:04:20] Speaker C: I am the man in charge. I'm the boss now. [00:04:26] Speaker B: Almost as if he wanted to prove something to the world but didn't know how. I knew then he wasn't the man who murdered my father. [00:04:38] Speaker B: He became aggressive. But I knew how to tame an aggressive prey. I was one. A prey. I meant once before. And my father was the aggressor. But that's another story. So. [00:04:56] Speaker C: How much for the tusks? [00:05:00] Speaker B: Cell 101. First one talking numbers fails. [00:05:05] Speaker C: African lesson 101 in here, I am the President, the boss. Your lifeline. Unless I said otherwise. [00:05:16] Speaker B: Yusuf, why so upset? We just started to know each other. [00:05:23] Speaker B: I got closer to Yusuf, instructively caressed his head and landed a kiss on his neck. On his cheek. Then I hugged him. [00:05:35] Speaker C: Chinese woman is getting me excited. [00:05:38] Speaker B: Because Chinese woman understands. The president. [00:05:42] Speaker B: The boss, my lifeline. I have a hungry mob of Chinese buyers waiting. They will sell their moms to get these tusks to cure their ED. [00:05:53] Speaker C: $1,000. [00:05:57] Speaker B: I busted. Laughing. A pair? [00:06:00] Speaker C: No. Each. [00:06:03] Speaker B: Deal. [00:06:04] Speaker C: How. [00:06:07] Speaker C: How much will you resell it for? [00:06:10] Speaker C: Come on, you can tell me. [00:06:14] Speaker B: That's my problem now, isn't it? Just stay in your lane, Monsieur Youssef. The traffic is extremely fast in here. It might get you killed otherwise. [00:06:26] Speaker C: Oh, scary. Is this a Chinese proverb or something? [00:06:34] Speaker C: Now let me show you a real African bull. [00:06:40] Speaker B: He lifted me up by the waist. I crossed my legs around his waist and told him, show me, boss. Very stactively. He carried me all the way to his hut. [00:06:54] Speaker C: You tricked him. [00:06:56] Speaker B: Wait, before you start assuming things. One night I pretended to be asleep. [00:07:06] Speaker D: Hello, Youssef. Youssef, my man. Yousef. Are you just waking up? [00:07:11] Speaker C: It's 4am I'm already awake. [00:07:14] Speaker D: So, have you decided, brother? [00:07:16] Speaker C: Decided what? [00:07:18] Speaker D: New boss, huh? Are you with the Chinese woman? [00:07:21] Speaker C: What? Who told you? [00:07:24] Speaker D: Africa is a big place. News travels slow when it comes to us. But a Chinese woman in Africa? That's gossip express, my brother. Besides, you forgot I'm a boss too. I pay people to watch and listen. [00:07:38] Speaker C: What are you talking about? [00:07:40] Speaker D: It is okay. I know she's with you. So don't pretend. But I'm talking about you taking leave for good yourself. [00:07:50] Speaker C: Lead. What about Kwame? [00:07:52] Speaker D: What about him? Kwame, Juliaho and all these people. They're old School. You and I are the new school. Enough of placing your ears on the ground to track animals. Enough of you putting your fingers in intermosion. Come on, Youssef. Everyone knows you are. And you will always stay in the back. But Kwame. Put Kwame out of business. Now claim what you deserve. By the way, I'll send you this new app for tracking our praise that uses artificial intelligence. It's Chinese, cheap and it's pretty efficient. Check it out, you'll see. What do you say, Yousef? I'd help you out, but if you need me. [00:08:34] Speaker D: It means that you're not ready. So. [00:08:38] Speaker C: Morning, Youssef. Are you ready? Let's go. I'll call you back. He's here. We'll talk. [00:08:47] Speaker C: Rest. I'll be back this evening. Make yourself at home. [00:08:56] Speaker B: I had to say Yusef was not a bad person. But he wouldn't tell me how to reach you. And the atmosphere in the area got the best of me. Especially those random gunshots. [00:09:10] Speaker B: So that night when he came back, we had another great time in bed, if you know what I mean. [00:09:17] Speaker D: Get to the point, please. [00:09:20] Speaker B: We suddenly heard another distant single. [00:09:25] Speaker B: What is that? [00:09:28] Speaker C: Single gunshot. Hunter down. [00:09:34] Speaker C: Where were we? [00:09:35] Speaker B: I got very unease by the sound of random gunshots. While for Youssef, it was business as usual. [00:09:44] Speaker B: Suddenly, Yusuf's phone buzzes again. He reached out to his cell phone placed by my nightstand. I quickly glanced at a text. [00:09:55] Speaker B: You missed our appointment tonight. That is not good leadership, Yusef. Put him in touch with that Chinese woman asap. Julia. [00:10:07] Speaker D: He didn't even mention anything about you or. [00:10:14] Speaker D: All right, go on, please. [00:10:17] Speaker B: So Yusuf lost his confidence. I could see it on his face. So I knew he wasn't the main charge I was looking for. [00:10:29] Speaker B: So I asked, what is it? [00:10:32] Speaker C: Oh, nothing important. [00:10:34] Speaker B: Tell me. [00:10:35] Speaker C: Sometimes I question Osman, the man in charge. I'm the man in charge. Didn't I tell you that before? [00:10:46] Speaker C: My. My partner's motivations. I meant. [00:10:51] Speaker C: What is the end goal here? To unite as a Pan African country. And that is? Politics. Or to go after the money. Politics. [00:11:04] Speaker C: None of us has had any experience doing that. And it might even be the end of us as hunters. I've seen what politics done to Ranger, to his brother. [00:11:17] Speaker B: It changed, made it goes hand to hand. You know, money, politics. Tell me more. [00:11:27] Speaker B: Are you a politician or a businessman? You said. [00:11:34] Speaker B: If you ask me, I see you as. [00:11:39] Speaker B: I'd rather not. [00:11:40] Speaker C: Why not? [00:11:42] Speaker B: I am not. [00:11:43] Speaker C: I value your opinion now. [00:11:46] Speaker B: Do you now? [00:11:51] Speaker C: I'm not sure what I am. I know for sure I am not living. [00:11:57] Speaker C: I. [00:12:00] Speaker C: I have been surviving all this time. Not even sure how. Got lucky since I was born or why. Why My partner's family took me under their wings since I was a little boy. The war in Freetown has devastated anything I knew from where I'm originally from. [00:12:21] Speaker B: And where is that, Yusuf? [00:12:24] Speaker C: Freetown, Liberia the rebels ravaged and attacked my village and killed anything that moved at night. [00:12:36] Speaker C: Papa, on his horns, found a basket and heard something that did not belong to the high grass of the savannah. [00:12:46] Speaker C: Baba approached the basket and uncovered the fabric that was protecting me. [00:12:54] Speaker C: A baby boy. [00:12:57] Speaker C: Look what wars are doing to our children. He raised me with his two other sons, Aris and Kwame. [00:13:08] Speaker C: I never felt that I completely belonged. [00:13:13] Speaker C: And now I want to take the lead. I am tired of being second at Edwill and working for someone else. I am a new boss. I can have my own business now. [00:13:28] Speaker B: Yes, you can. Just be smart about it. I asked him one last time. Yusuf, who's the man in charge? Please tell me. [00:13:42] Speaker B: He ignored me. That. [00:13:47] Speaker B: That hurts. [00:13:50] Speaker C: Ah, but these lips. They are so red and ripe. To the Peking. Come here, you. [00:14:00] Speaker B: He pulled me toward him and kissed me again. As you have become hypnotized by my red lipstick, my hand slowly slithered from the bed to a small pouch used as a purse set nearby. As a python approaching its prey. [00:14:19] Speaker B: My hand and my fingers surgically opened a small bottle of arsenic pills. I then took one pill and gently placed it between my front teeth. [00:14:32] Speaker C: What is this? [00:14:36] Speaker B: Chinese aphrodisiac. [00:14:39] Speaker C: No need. You're in Africa now. Get it up. No problem. Last longer. No problem. [00:14:48] Speaker B: How long? [00:14:49] Speaker C: Hours. Long. [00:14:51] Speaker B: I thought you said I was yours for the weekend. [00:14:58] Speaker B: He tried to kiss me again. I evaded it then. [00:15:04] Speaker C: I know you want some ivory and I want some money. So let's be partners. [00:15:13] Speaker C: Go to Grand Bassam in Ivory coast and talk to Sharp Te. He got the biggest stock of tusks. I'll get a percentage on every transaction. Okay. [00:15:25] Speaker B: Sharp teeth. [00:15:27] Speaker D: Yes. [00:15:29] Speaker C: All roads seem to lead to sharp teeth. Indeed. [00:15:37] Speaker C: Jacqueline. [00:15:40] Speaker C: Jacqueline. [00:15:43] Speaker C: Jacqueline. Maya Moore. [00:15:48] Speaker C: Jacqueline. I know, I know. I have been bad and mean lately not to feed you for days. What am I saying? What am I talking about for weeks? [00:16:03] Speaker C: Look, I. I got a snack for you. [00:16:09] Speaker C: I love that fish. I adore her. Come here, girl. [00:16:21] Speaker C: Yes, he loves animals that have sharp teeth. Hence his nickname. His favorite is a shark named Jacqueline. Whoever double crosses him usually ends up with a jackaling. He had a party the other day where he invited people to watch it lie. Hey, He's a barbaric type. Very savage. [00:16:47] Speaker C: I'm only recommending him to you because I see the potential of our partnership. Just be careful. O er. [00:16:57] Speaker C: By the way, who referred you to us? [00:17:02] Speaker B: Retrodettus indistinctus. [00:17:05] Speaker C: Another Chinese customer. [00:17:09] Speaker B: That's Latin for you. [00:17:13] Speaker B: She first invites her male into her web. They make passionate love. [00:17:19] Speaker C: Like we are. I'm your man now. [00:17:25] Speaker B: Yes, like we are. Then he avidly took the pill from my fingers. He quickly chewed and swallowed it. Seconds later I saw him gasping for air, choking on his own slife and trying to reach a glass of water. The glass fell, broke on the floor. Then his body suddenly convulsed and slowly became inanimated. The foam slowly oozed out of his mouth. [00:17:59] Speaker B: I watched him in silence for a moment. Then I said to him. [00:18:06] Speaker B: Bladactys indistinctus is also commonly named a black widow. She sex the life of her male partner after they make love. [00:18:19] Speaker B: Sorry, Youssef. [00:18:22] Speaker B: You'Re not the man in charge. I then started searching everywhere. I started with Yusef's phone with the last who else? Message. Looked in the drawers of the nightstand, the drawers of the table, under the mattress of the bed, under the bed itself. [00:18:41] Speaker B: I become frustrated. I sat for a moment on the bed and thought. Julio Sages. [00:18:51] Speaker B: I try to remember your name. When Yusef said, what about Kwame? Before me, behind a mirror, I saw my reflection and I thought, why not? So I ran toward it, placed my fingers slowly between a mirror and the wall from top to bottom. Unexpectedly, tips of my fingers touched something. Some papers, documents. I might be a little superstitious. I didn't want to break it. So I cautiously took the mirror off the nails that were deeply struck inside the wall and rested it on the bed. As I turned the mirror upside down, a few pieces of paper fell. A reservation to Grand Bossom, Ivory Coast Airport with her name Kwame Kwadil on it. And a couple of black and white pictures of dead elephant Kwame, you. [00:19:54] Speaker B: And my stepfather Tony. [00:19:59] Speaker B: Daddy, I smile.
